My name is Pete Fry, and I’m running for Mayor of Vancouver because I believe in the potential of our city.

As a city councillor for eight years, I’ve developed the skills and experience to work across council’s diversity of views and with other levels of government, delivering real results for workers, families, local businesses, our arts and culture scene, and our public spaces. I’ve worked hard to hold City Hall to a higher standard, delivering quality services and reliable amenities for the people we govern. I take public office seriously, and I believe in a City Hall that is open, transparent, and accountable to the people it serves – not one run behind closed doors.

As mayor, I will bring the experience, integrity, and representative leadership necessary to make Vancouver live up to its potential as a safe, fun, and healthy city for everyone.

As mayor, I will focus on protecting renters while getting the City to deliver more homes people can actually afford.

But affordability isn’t just about housing, it also comes from accessible and reliable city services.

Through smart investments and transparent budgets, I will ensure every tax dollar delivers real value back to you, through quality city amenities and services that make life more affordable for everyone.

True community safety comes from a responsible care approach, one that tackles the root causes of harm, including addiction, untreated mental illness, homelessness, and poverty.

That means investing in services and supports that meet people where they are at, while still respecting both human rights and the rule of law.

A strong local economy starts with strong local businesses. Our businesses make our city lively and fun, along with our arts and culture scene.

Together they create vibrant communities that attract new residents and visitors from around the world.

As mayor, I will make Vancouver’s government work for small businesses by cutting costly and unnecessary red tape, and investing in arts and culture to support thriving communities that attract new talent.

By backing local entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, and businesses, we can keep Vancouver growing and build an economy that works for everyone.

We can grow without losing what makes Vancouver special. Growth should be smart and sustainable, building a city that’s healthy, lively, and enjoyable for everyone.

I support a full range of housing options that protect our parks and green spaces, advance climate action, and keep our communities vibrant, connected, and liveable for families, seniors, and everyday people.

People deserve a City Hall they can trust. As a city councillor since 2018, I have always led with integrity, transparency, and accountability in every decision, making sure residents come first.

This isn’t a zero-sum city, we do best when we work together. I lead by listening, building partnerships, and making sure government stays focused on delivering results for the people it serves.

About Me

I was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Anglo-Trinidadian parents, but Vancouver became home when I was two years old. While I have lived all over Vancouver and explored each of its unique neighbourhoods, Strathcona has been home since 1988. Today I still live there with my wife, dog and our two cats.

Prior to working at City Hall, I ran my own business as a graphic artist for over thirty years. I operated a print shop and creative communications firm, working with hundreds of small businesses, arts organizations, and nonprofits. That work gave me deep roots and lasting relationships with communities across the city.

My entry into politics began after a close friend was killed as a pedestrian on a local street. That loss drove me to advocate for street safety as chair of the Strathcona Residents Association, and later for broader community safety as a representative on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside Local Area Plan. As coordinator with Our Place at Ray-Cam Co-operative Community Centre, I advocated for vulnerable inner-city families and youth and was a founding member of the Hogan’s Alley Society. I remained engaged in community life across many different causes including animal welfare, serving as a representative on the Vancouver Dog Strategy Task Force.

As city councillor since 2018, I’ve championed Vancouver’s first-ever renter’s office, dual licensing for restaurants and bars, the creation of the East Side Arts District, backed safer residential streets and the renewal of Britannia Community Centre, while fighting for smart, sustainable housing growth.

For eight years I’ve served on the board of the Union of BC Municipalities, building working relationships with local governments across the province and political lines. I’ve chaired the Auditor General Committee and served on the boards of Metro Vancouver, the Vancouver Public Library, and the National Zero Waste Council as well as councillor liaison to various advisory committees.

Since 2022, I have been the only consistent opposition on council to Ken Sim and ABC Party and exposed Mayor Sim’s misuse of public funds, unlawful backroom meetings, prevented his elimination of the Office of the Integrity Commissioner and the Park Board, and other abuses of power.

I take public office seriously and I have worked hard to demand more from City Hall and deliver real support, quality services and reliable amenities to support the people we govern.
